SafeOpen — Privacy Policy

SafeOpen Privacy Policy

Effective: April 2026 — About SafeOpen →

The Short Version

SafeOpen collects no data. Your scans, QR payloads, link history, and risk results never leave your device. There are no servers involved in core scanning and no data is ever transmitted to Katafract or any third party.

What SafeOpen Does

SafeOpen is a QR code and link inspection tool. It uses your device camera to scan QR codes and accepts pasted or shared links. It classifies payloads, scores risk using local heuristics, and stores a scan history in local device storage.

Data We Do Not Collect

SafeOpen does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:

On-Device Processing

All QR decoding, payload classification, URL normalization, and risk scoring runs entirely on your device using local, deterministic algorithms. No network connection is required or used for these functions. Camera frames are processed in memory and are never written to disk or transmitted anywhere.

Local Storage

Scan history is stored in your device’s local app storage. It is not synced to iCloud or any cloud service. Deleting the app permanently removes all stored history. You can also clear history from within the app at any time.

Camera Permission

SafeOpen requests camera access solely to scan QR codes. It does not access your photo library, save images, or use the camera for any purpose other than real-time QR decoding. You may deny camera permission and use the paste/share-in workflow instead.

Apple Platform Data

SafeOpen does not use any Apple advertising or analytics frameworks (SKAdNetwork, MeasurementKit, etc.). It does not integrate any third-party SDKs. The Apple Privacy Nutrition Label for SafeOpen reads: Data Not Collected.

Future Network Features

Future versions of SafeOpen may include optional backend-assisted inspection (such as redirect expansion for short URLs) and integration with the Enclave platform for protected link opening. These features will be clearly disclosed and opt-in. This policy will be updated before any such features ship.

Children

SafeOpen is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

Changes to This Policy

Material changes will be announced at katafract.com and reflected in an updated effective date above. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
